Year 1

Welcome to Year 1

Our Team

My name is Mrs Johnson and I am pleased and excited to be teaching Year 1 this year along with Miss Fox. This will be my twelfth year at St. Andrew's after graduating from University of Cumbria with a BA honours in Primary Education with English and MFL specialism. I am looking forward to working with Year 1 and look forward to the challenges and fun experiences we will have throughout the year.

Miss Fox

Luckily, we have Miss Fox supporting us in Class 1 this year. She has worked at St. Andrews for the last ten years in various year groups. She loves music and particularly singing and participating in the school choir. Her favourite subject is music and she is looking forward to participating in as many music lessons and activities as possible. Miss Fox is very excited about all the wonderful subjects we will be studying next year and cannot wait to get started.

The topics we will be covering this year are:

• James Hargreaves, The Spinning Jenny and Oswaldtwistle Mills
• How can we improve our school grounds for sustainability?
• Ambitious individuals?
• Where is our country?
• The Great Fire of London
• What are the hot and cold areas?

In Year 1 we have PE on Monday afternoon and Wednesday morning. Please ensure that your child has their correct and named PE kit in school on these days with pumps that fit in case we decide to work outside.

We have a very exciting year ahead, we are encouraging parents and guardians to get involved in our learning journey.

At St Andrew’s we have an open door policy. If you have anything that you would like to discuss, please don’t hesitate to come into school and speak to us. I will also be available on Dojo.
